Kannah Lakshmi Narayana
Born to Kanna Rangaiah & Kanna Masthanamma, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana was the youngest in the family. Hailing from a modest background, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has always been very sensitive to the needs of common man and understood the ebb & flow of a commoner’s life. Whether helping the needy and downtrodden in his village or acting as the Industry Minister in Rosaiah’s cabinet, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has always been at the forefront of social service.
A successful weightlifter, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana was attracted to politics from a very young age. He realized that if he has to make a real difference to the life of a common man then he has to join politics and deliver. He knew as an elected representative of people he will have more chance and power to make the substantial contribution towards poverty alleviation and bring a qualitative change in the lives of those whom he has seen suffering from close quarters. He was fully aware how the majority of people eke out their living. All this suffering never allowed him to sleep peacefully. In those bylanes of Guntur, a sensitive politician was born and who with time brought substantial development to his constituency Pedakurapadu, Guntur and became a role model to others in the public service.
He dreamt initially to be a Sub-Inspector in the Police department but destiny wanted him to have more power to work towards the betterment of the society at all levels. Hailing from a political family of Guntur, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has this burning desire, deep passion and unflinching faith in the human endeavor which has enabled him to script a highly successful political career of his own, now lasting about 40 years. He still feels he has a lot to contribute and counts every single day as important in his attempt to bring a difference.
Getting on his bicycle during his junior college days, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, a B Com graduate, used to invite all to JOIN NSUI by writing on the walls and this was his way of getting initiated into politics – entering a profession without being forced. He just felt it to be his calling and heeded the voice of his heart. A much-focused man with a clean vision, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana knew even in those early days that only honesty of effort, passion and a soft heart will bring success in his chosen field. Even today when he is holding a very important portfolio of Minister for Industries he has not neglected the people of his constituency or the people of Andhra Pradesh. A man of the soil, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has not forgotten his roots and the foundation of his successful political career.
Kanna Lakshminarayana is a man of word and commitment never fears to fight for justice and stand up for the truth. In his early political career, he was stabbed when he refused to compromise on his principles. A gold medalist in shooting, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has brought the virtues of a sportsman – discipline, dedication, direction and desire to win – to the world of politics and social development.
This 52-year-old veteran Congress leader has won the just-concluded election to the State Assembly for the fifth term from Guntur (West) Assembly constituency; he won from Pedakurapadu, the biggest constituency in Andhra Pradesh, for four straight terms, from 1989 to 2004, including the 1994 Assembly elections when only 26 Congressmen won the election. Late NT Rama Rao took the personal interest in defeating him in the 1994 Assembly elections but Kanna Lakshmi Narayana still prevailed and it was only possible because he has served the people of his constituency with honesty and dedication.
Kanna Lakshmi Narayana is currently the Minister of Major Industries, Food Processing, Commerce & Export Promotion in the cabinet of Hon’ble Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, having served with distinction as Transport Minister in the previous Cabinet of late Hon’ble CM Dr. Y. S. Rajashekhar Reddy.

This was another example of Kanna Lakshmi Narayana’s concern for the welfare of the farmers. He started a new Agricultural Marketing Yard in Krosur. This provided infrastructure for Go Downs, platforms and administrative building and he got sufficient financial resources sanctioned for this developmental activity. Thus he ensured that a facility was provided to the farmers to sell their produces at a closer place without enduring hardships by traveling long distances to sell their agricultural produce.
Registering unprecedented development in the history of Andhra Pradesh, Pedakurapadu has become a role model for other constituencies. Some other major programs initiated have been housing schemes for weaker sections under Indiramma Phase I and II. In total 28,680 houses were sanctioned and have been completed till date.
Kanna Lakshmi Narayana intends to continue serving people and as a Minister he is striving very hard to provide many employment opportunities to the youth hailing from all parts of Andhra Pradesh. As a Minister of Industries, he has the capacity to bring many industries to various parts of AP and generate development as well as create jobs. He understands that the only way poverty can be eradicated and a honorable life is guaranteed to all the sections of the society is by ensuring that development and its fruits reach each corner of the state and to each and every resident of Andhra Pradesh.
